Bestiary - Silicrole

Not all dangerous monsters of Europa are gigantic. There are quite a few that are barely a foot tall yet possess a threat no less than large predators of the wild.

Silicroles are small pack-hunting vermin, preferring to inhabit human settlements. One may find them in old cellars, sewers, and other underground structures. These small creatures have considerably high intelligence and may occasionally show a great level of cunning, especially when gathered in large packs. Those packs are the main source of danger both for men and Beasts. A single Silicrole won’t consider a human-sized creature as prey, but in a pack, they will probably attack – of course, if the prey is solitary and unsuspecting. Silicroles are armed with a sting poisoned with neurotoxin, powerful enough to paralyze an adult humanoid. Shortly after, there would be very little left of the prey. Silicroles consume all organic matter, including bones, teeth, and hair.

Bodies of Silicroles incorporate both carbon and silicon-based organics, leaving scholars to wonder if these vermin are a single being or symbiont. For now, most consider them to be keenly engineered beings, a true wonder of the Demigods, yet completely lost its original purpose. The most controversial thing is that Silicroles have two brains: one carbon based and one silicon based. It’s unclear how they cooperate, but a popular theory says the C-brain is responsible for the individual mind, while the S-brain is for collective thinking. This has certain proof in the much more intelligent behavior of a pack than of solitary creatures.

Another notorious thing about Silicroles is their kleptomaniac nature. They would steal almost anything shiny or bright, so their nests are often full of trinkets and curiosities from all around the neighborhood, from simple glass shards to precious relics.

As with any vermin, there is no effective way to get rid of Silicroles. Poison, special emitting, physical extermination – all these give just partial and temporary results. Thus, there is always a demand for vermin exterminators. And many Keepers would take the job… if the price is right, of course.
